9A My Thinking

Critical thinking is thinking in a different way.  Is it expanding your ideas and challenging yourself. Not only that but you need to apply it also. I think that critical thinking is very important to a college student because it help you gain new knowledge.

I definitely used critical thinking my first year of college and it helped me become a better student. I used critical thinking in my inquiry class. In inquiry we talked a lot about the changes from high school to college. We also talked a lot about the different mindsets. Talking about these different things has made me become a great critical thinker.

Because of college I now choose to do my homework instead of watching TV.  Failure motivates me to choose the right things. Critical thinking gives you good and bad choices. Everyone in the world is a critical thinker. Everyone has to make choices every minute whether it is good or bad. We base our life on decisions.

9V Critical Thinking

Critical thinking is a process that leads to skills that can be learned, mastered and used. It involves you making decision to whether something is right or wrong. People use critical thinking in everyday life. It is something that we must use everyday in order for you to make the right decisions. I have learned to use critical thinking when I started college because for the first time I got to make my own decisions.

Two new words that I learned this week are advocacy, which means public support of a certain case, and ageism, which is prejudice or discrimination on the basis of a person’s age.

9I Sonia Sotomayor

This week I went to visit Sonia Sotomayor. I was very excited to see what she had to say about her life. She brought up how her friends has kept her grounded and how they have never brought her down. She said “I don’t think we walk the path of our life on our own”. When she said that it made me think of my friends and how they never let me go through a tough time alone.
Her speech was inspiring and it made me change some of my ways. It made me see life in a different life. I will definitely think about trying new things in my college career.

9B Midterms

I was very surprised when I saw all my midterm grades. I did not think I would do so well. I thought that I would have failed some of them. I had done so well on my Sociology midterm. I tried to study very hard. I think that from this experience I learned that studying does pay off. When I saw that I got a 90 it definitely made my day.
I also did well on my English midterm. Even though I always have to write papers it was still difficult for me because I have always had difficulty writing essays. I learned that as long as you try hard enough, you could never fail.

I was very disappointed to see that I did not do so well on my Pre-Calculus exam. i must admit I did not study at all because I thought I knew all of it. Boy was I wrong! I forgot everything that I learned. I was very disappointed but that made me study harder for my next exam in which I Aced.

Overall I did very well this semester and I hope to do better next semester. I will definitely try to study harder and review all my notes. I will also not assume I know everything because I am not Einstein!

8I Majors EXPO

This week I went to the Majors EXPO at 1 p.m. it was great to see all the majors and minors. Also it felt great to know what you were doing. During this event I found out that I want to minor in Spanish Education. I talked to some nice people who helped me decide that choosing Spanish as my minor would be very good because many schools need Spanish teachers. They also gave me info on STAMP test (a Spanish placement test). I am definitely considering this as my minor.

8A The Best Bloggers

I believe that every student who is writing blogs deserve an A but only two students stood out to me. One of them was “ I Invite You to Take a Look From My Eyes” http://samanthamonaco.blogspot.com. The first thing that caught my eye was her background because it was very different. She always seems to go overboard and try her hardest when it comes to writing blogs. Sam’s articles really show the reader her personality and how she is. She always puts her thoughts as well as everyone else’s. She always gives great examples and always grabs my attention. Not going to lie but I have learned a lot from reading her articles. It has definitely made me a better blogger.

Another blogger that has really inspired me was “Inside The Owls Nest” http://scsu17.blogspot.com. When I read her blog I feel like I am reading a teachers blog. She always seems to hit all the right points. Even when she writes to much I feel like I never get bored from her writing. Her blogs seem to represent her and her struggles with Lyme disease. It is great to see that people would share that. She always makes sure to put her thoughts into things.
Reading other students blogs really help me on my writing because it helped me form my own voice. I believe that everyone deserves an A for trying to at least blog. Blogging it self is a challenge because we need to put ourselves out there.
