The articles that we read this week all had one
thing in common and that is shame and challenges. The previous week we learned
about fixed mindset and growth mindset. This all connects because most people
believe that hard work and dedication can get them very far that’s why most
people like challenges.
This week I listened to a video about Dr. Brian
Goldman. He talked about how he had made a mistake on a patient and how he
regrets it. The point of this lecture was to learn from your mistake and pass
on the information to others. One quote that I pulled from this video is “do
you remember”. That was the question that was stuck on Dr. Goldman’s mind
because people asked him that question a lot. It was an emotional question for
him because it reminded him of his mistakes. Dr. Brian Goldman had been a very
good doctor but later he realizes that everybody makes mistakes. We are part of
a world where no one is perfect.
Another
connection is extrinsic and intrinsic motivation. This connects to Angela
Duckworth and her talk about grit. Intrinsic requires a lot of grit because
they are both focused on success and how to become a better learner. Angela talks about how hard it is for people
to have a good grit score. She says that people who don’t go to school have
less motivation to continue on with their goals than people who do go to
school. This is where extrinsic motivation comes in because most people need to
get motivation from someone else inorder for them to achieve a goal.
