5V Power To The People

Agency- Action, power and movement

Agency is such a powerful word just like its definition.  It is something everyone uses in their lives and something that we as students use in our everyday life at Southern Connecticut. We have the agency to get up everyday and give it our all. We also have the agency to get our work done on time and in great condition.  I myself have the agency to clean my house every morning before I go to school (Commuter problems).
Two new words that I learned this week were surmount, which means to overcome, and omission, which is someone or something that is excluded.

5I Jumpstart!

This week I went to a meeting about JumpStart. I was so surprised to see that Southern offered such a great program for everybody.  I found out that this program was going to help me get the experience I need for me to become a teacher. Also it means that I get to volunteer to help little kids read and write. The best part about this is that it will pay for some of my school expenses.  I am glad to see that southern thinks about the students in so many ways. I can hardly wait to start such a great program. It is the first step to my future.

5B Time Study

This weeks time study came to me as a surprise. I was amazed to see that I sleep 88 hours each week.  I honestly thought that I didn’t sleep that much.  Ever since college started I have been to tired to do anything.  It was also a shock to see that I did not spend that much time doing my homework. I spent more time working than studying.  I learned that I need to spend more time studying than working.  I did not devote enough time to do homework out side of class.
As we were going around the room sharing the time we devoted to studying I started to become embarrassed because most of my other classmates studied more than 30 hours per week. I began to realize that if I was going to be embarrassed about it I had to study more in order for me to feel good about my self.  But I also realized that I really don’t spend much time socializing. I spend less hours socializing than doing homework. I was very happy to see that socializing is not getting in the way of school.
During the rest of this semester I will dedicate more hours to school than sleep. I will try to take my time and not rush because it will only give me more practice on my schoolwork.  I will also try to be social because that is how I will make more friends.  I believe that having more friends is better in college because we can have a study group together. I realize that time management is very important. Have a good time management keeps you balanced in college.

5A This Weeks Goals!

These four weeks have been challenging but easy.  I have had some difficulty with my math class because I am still not use to the way my teacher teaches. I am really trying to understand it because mathematics is my major.  This class I harder than I thought. I was very disappointed about my first test in that class. I was really expecting to get and A but I got a B. I am trying to get an A on my next test. And that is the goal I am setting for my self this week. I am going to try to give my self a new goal each time one of them is completed. This weeks reading improved my understanding on how to work on my goals. This reading taught me that I need to understand the goal that I am trying to reach.

This week I tried to reach my goal of not being so shy in front of my classes.  It did not really work because I got a B on my participation grade. I really hoped to get a better grade because I am a good listener. I was very disappointed of that grade.  Now that I see that it impacts my grades of this semester I am going to try to open up more in class.  Even though it is going to be hard for me I am hoping that my teachers give me a chance to open up and show them that I have different views on things.
Another goal that I tried to complete this week was to not leave everything for the last minute. I was very pleased to see that my strategy worked.  I worked on some of my homework during the free time that I had at school. The best part was that I did not have to rush when I got home because I already had finished most of my homework.

4V The Future

Delayed Gratification- the ability to resist the temptation for an immediate reward and wait for a later reward.

Everyone has been patient at some point in his or her life. That patience is called Delayed Gratification.  A lot of people have tested this with the marshmallow project. They believe that by this you can predict the children’s future. I believe that delayed gratification has its ups and downs just like I said in my previous blogs. I also believe that the tests that have been done to prove that delayed gratification leads to success, actually works.
Two words that I learned this week were elusive, which means difficult to find, and Idiosyncratic, which means individual.

4I Ohhh the Puritans!

I have a test next week in my history class and I was really struggling with one topic. I had to find out more about the Puritans. With the help of my friends I decided to go to the library and find a book that can talk more about them. At first I thought that the book was in the first floor. After I searched and searched I decided to search for the book in one of the computers. After I searched it I asked one of the librarian ladies to help me find it. She said that it was on the third floor. I felt like I was on a scavenger hunt! After I found the book I was so relieved because I could finally study for my test next week. I never thought that the library books would be so helpful
