Everyone in our society has dealt with delayed
gratification. Today I had to deal with it my self. I was very hungry and my
best friend, Elena, decided to cook for me from her house. She was going to
bring me the bacon, egg, and cheese at school. As the time went by I called her
because I wanted to know when she was coming. I couldn’t wait! I was so
surprised to hear that she had brought me two just because I waited for so
long. You can tell I was very happy in the photo above! It was extremely hard
but I succeeded in delayed gratification.
My delayed
gratification has become harder since I arrived to America. When I was in
Albania I would have patience because I had the time in the world. But now that
I am here I have no patience fro anything. Whenever something new comes out, I
HAVE to have it! We are so use to having everything handed to us in seconds
that we don’t pay attention to how it is affecting us.
Americans
are impatient because of the way our society is set up. Everything is based on
costumer service. Fro example, when I am in a restaurant I get frustrated
because the food takes too long. And also at the supermarket that I work at,
people get mad at me because I take a lil long to ring up their transaction.
Many researchers, like Maria Eigsti, do
not believe that the Marshmallow test works. They say “ these measures don’t
tell you about success rates”. I agree with Eigsti’s argument because a simple marshmallow
test does not predict the children’s future achievements.
